How much does 3D printing cost?

There is no single price for a 3D print, and any site quoting one is guessing. Cost comes down to how much material and machine time your part needs, plus any design work. Here is exactly what we look at when we price a job — so you can see where your money goes before you ask for a quote.

What changes the price

  • Size and volume — a bigger or thicker part uses more material and more hours on the machine.
  • Material — PLA is the economical everyday choice; PETG costs a little more and is used where heat, sun or stress is involved.
  • Infill and wall thickness — a decorative piece can be mostly hollow, a load-bearing bracket cannot.
  • Layer height — finer layers look better but take longer to print.
  • Quantity — printing several of the same part together brings the cost per piece down.
  • Finishing — supports removal, sanding, gluing multi-part assemblies or painting add time.
  • Design work — if there is no 3D file yet, modelling it is a separate one-off cost.

How to keep the cost down

  • Ask whether the part can be scaled down or hollowed out — often it can.
  • Let us pick the material unless you have a reason not to; we will choose the cheapest one that will actually last.
  • Order the quantity you expect to need in one go rather than in ones and twos.
  • Accept a slightly coarser layer height for parts nobody will look closely at.
  • Send a usable STL if you already have one — that removes the design cost entirely.

Getting a real number

We quote per job, free, and the price we send is the price you pay — it includes material, machine time and any finishing we have agreed.

Most jobs are finished in 2–5 working days, and every enquiry gets a free quote within 24 hours.

Send an STL or OBJ file if you have one. If you don't, our designers can turn a sketch, a photo or a set of measurements into a print-ready CAD model.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a small 3D printed part cost?
Small everyday parts are the cheapest thing we do, but the exact figure depends on size, material and strength. Send a photo or file and we will give you a free fixed price within 24 hours.
Is PLA or PETG cheaper?
PLA is the cheaper material and fine for most indoor and decorative parts. PETG costs a little more and is worth it for anything exposed to heat, sunlight or mechanical stress.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. Quotes are free and we aim to reply within 24 hours.
What does it cost if I have no 3D file?
We can model the part from photos, a sketch or measurements. That design work is quoted separately and once, so any reprints later only cost the printing.
Is 3D printing cheaper than buying the part?
For discontinued, unusual or custom parts it usually is, because the alternative is replacing a whole unit. For mass-produced items still on sale, buying is often cheaper — we will tell you honestly which case yours is.
