No 3D file? Here's exactly what to send us instead

A large share of our work starts with someone holding a broken part and no idea what an STL file is. That is fine — it is a normal starting point, and this page explains what to send so we can take it from there.

If you have the broken part

  • Photograph it next to a ruler or tape measure — one photo from the top, one from the side
  • Note the key dimensions: overall length, width, height and the size of any hole or fitting
  • Tell us where it lives and what it does — heat, sun and load all change how we make it
  • Broken into pieces? Photograph the pieces together — that is usually still enough

If it is a new idea

  • A hand sketch with rough measurements is plenty
  • A photo of something similar — even from a shop or a website — gives us the shape
  • A written description with dimensions works too

What happens next

Our designers turn what you send into a proper 3D model and show you a preview before anything is printed. You approve the design, we quote the print, and the part is usually ready in 2–5 working days. The design work is a one-off cost — reprints after that only cost the printing.

If you do have a file

Even better — STL and OBJ are ideal, and STEP files work too. Attach it to the contact form and we will reply with a free fixed quote within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions

Can you really copy a part from photos?
In most cases, yes — photos with a ruler for scale plus the key measurements are enough for our designers to model an accurate replacement.
What if the part is broken into pieces?
Photograph the pieces arranged together. As long as the overall shape and the critical dimensions are visible, we can usually reconstruct it.
Do I pay for the design before seeing it?
No. We quote the design work up front, you approve, and you see a preview of the model before anything is printed.
Where can I find free 3D files myself?
Sites like Printables, Thingiverse and MakerWorld host millions of free models. If you find one you like, send us the link or file and we will print it.
